Shaykh Moulay Mortada al-Boumashouli is a religious teacher and scholar and a member of the Council of Oulema in Morocco. He is also one of the scholars entrusted with educating and regulating the imams of the mosques in Morocco.

In addition, he is a Shaykh of the Qadiri Shadhili Darqawi Habibi Sufic Tariqa. He was born in the Zawiya of Moulay ‘Abdal-Malik Boumashoul on March 8th 1978 and was taught the Qur’an and the Islamic sciences by his Shaykh and father, Muhammad al-Basri al-Boumashouli. Sufism formed a vital part of his early upbringing in the Zawiya.
When his father died in 1999, Shaykh Mortada succeeded him as imam, khatib and religious teacher. In 2007, he was chosen by the Council of Oulema to be one of their religious teachers and in 2009, he was endorsed by the King as one of the religious scholars in charge of educating and regulating the imams, as part of the program, “A plan to make the imams of the Mosques properly qualified”.

In the year 2013, he was chosen by Shaykh Abdalqadir as-Sufi as the heir to his secret and his successor as Shaykh of the Qadiri Shadhili Darqawi Sufic Tariqa. Following this, Shaykh Mortada established a yearly global Sufi gathering in Kelaa Mgouna in Morocco, which would be attended by all his followers from all the continents throughout the world in the month of April or May each year.
